Several of Mayer Brown’s Consumer Financial Services partners will be featured at next week’s Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance Conference in Denver, sponsored by the Mortgage Bankers Association.
On May 2, 2016, Krista Cooley will participate on a panel entitled “Servicing Issues, Including TCPA.” She will address rules and directives under the Dodd-Frank Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and litigation and enforcement actions that continue to affect the mortgage servicing process.
Also on May 2, Melanie Brody will address “Fair Lending and HMDA Data.” She will cover how government agencies use that data to identify targets for fair lending enforcement and to support redlining claims.
On May 3, Phil Schulman will address the state of RESPA enforcement following the recent hearing on the CFPB’s PHH decision before the D.C. Circuit. That case is not likely to be decided for several months and will certainly be subject to further appeals depending on which party receives a favorable opinion. Phil also will discuss marketing, advertising, promotional, and training activities that are still permissible if done in compliance with the Act.
Also on May 3, Larry Platt will participate on a panel entitled “Government Program Update and What’s New on Repurchases & Indemnifications,” which will outline the latest developments from the Government Sponsored Enterprises, Federal Housing Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other government programs.
On May 4, Ori Lev will participate on a panel on “Self Reporting and Privilege,” which will examine the pros and cons of self reporting to regulatory agencies, how and when to self report, and remediation issues.
Other partners in the group, including Debra Bogo-Ernst, Eric Edwardson, Jon Jaffe, Steve Kaplan, Kris Kully, Lucia Nale, Stephanie Robinson, and David Tallman, also will be on hand. We look forward to connecting with you in Denver!
